ABOUT DR. ALEMU BEEFTU Our founder and president, Dr. Alemu Beeftu, was born on an isolated farm in central Ethiopia. As the youngest of 10 children, Alemu was expected to spend his life on the family farm. But he was so desperate to learn how to read and write that he ran away to a missionary school at around age 12. Once there, he not only learned literacy but also found a Savior in Jesus Christ. Alemu's personal experience as one without easy access to written resources led him to pursue education with a passion. As the Communist persecution of the church intensified, friends and mentors begged Alemu to become a student abroad. He culminated his education with degrees from Biola University and Michigan State University, where he holds both masters and doctoral degrees in Curriculum Design and Community Development. While at Michigan State, Alemu served as Assistant Professor in Adult & Lifelong Education. Nearly 20 years on the international field (including a decade as the Christian Leadership Development Specialist for Compassion International) also intensified Alemu’s personal passion for, and understanding of, his work through Gospel of Glory. Today, Gospel of Glory's reach extends into over 25 countries on six continents. Our alternative training methods, still being developed for less-than-traditional Christian training sites, are being embraced by areas throughout the world where a "leadership vacuum" exists for the Church. |
